Wallets

A wallet is an app on your phone that holds your ZEC and your keys. Pick one, install it from an official source, and back up your seed phrase. That's the whole job.

The golden rules

• Download only from official sources: the wallet's own website, the Apple App Store, or Google Play. Never from a link someone DMs you.
• We never ask for your seed. No one legitimate ever will. Zcash India will never DM you asking for your seed phrase, private keys, or money.
• Your seed phrase is your money. Write it on paper, store it offline, never type it into a website.

Recommended mobile wallets

Zashi — a clean, shielded-first wallet from Electric Coin Co. Great default for newcomers in India. Unified Address, shielded by default.

Zingo — a well-established mobile wallet with strong shielded support, available on Android and iOS.

Zodl — another India-friendly option in the ecosystem worth knowing about.

Any of these will get you a Unified Address and shielded payments. Start with one; you can always try others later.

First-time setup (5 minutes)

1. Install the wallet from its official source.
2. Create a new wallet. The app shows you a seed phrase (a list of words).
3. Write the seed phrase on paper, in order. Store it somewhere safe and private.
4. Confirm the seed in the app. Done. You have a shielded Zcash wallet.

Getting your first ZEC

You don't need to buy anything to learn. At our meetups and campus workshops we practise receiving on testnet first, so you can see a shielded transaction with zero risk. See Your first transaction.

When you're ready for real ZEC, you can receive it from a friend, earn it in the community, or acquire it through a reputable service. Zcash India is not an exchange and does not sell ZEC.

Staying safe

• Ignore anyone promising to "double your ZEC" or offering guaranteed returns.
• No admin will DM you first asking for money or seeds.
• When in doubt, ask in the Telegram group before acting.
